Blessed are the Cheesemakers, so the saying goes.
On the whole cheesemakers are humble people who don’t like blowing their own trumpet, and like most of us they focus more on criticism than praise. Today was the exception.
A Special Delivery anonymous box arrived. We were blown away to find a trophy inside.
The reason? Our Carrick cheese had just won the Best Organic Cheese category at the Mid Somerset Cheese Awards – a major cheese show with 66 different classes covering everything from Cheddar to Goat’s Cheese and Stilton to Brie.
We were absolutely shocked to then discover that not only had it won Best Organic Cheese – it then went on to win the Sean Wilson Trophy for The Best Artisan & Speciality Cheesemaker!
Sean Wilson is something of a familiar face. For 20 years he played Martin Platt in Coronation Street, now he’s an award winning cheese maker and chef.
The surprises didn’t stop there. We dug deeper into the box to discover that Bluebell had won a gold award in the Soft Blue Cheese Category and Fleet Valley Blue won a silver award in the Hard Blue Cheese category.
Thank you to all the judges involved. It’s a fantastic endorsement for our hardworking team – congratulations and thank you to Kevin, Clarke, Damon, Martin, Liz and Cheryl.
